Ensure full multimedia support (mp3, flash videos, DVD) after the installation of Ubuntu

To ensure full multimedia support (mp3, avi, flash videos, DVD, etc.) it is highly recommended to do the following:

1. Install the Ubuntu Restricted Extras during the installation or after the set-up. For the latter open a terminal and paste the following command:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

2. Enable the Full DVD Playback after the installation. Many commercial DVDs are encrypted with CSS (the Content Scrambling System), which attempts to restrict the software that can play a DVD. Being able to play such DVDs, you need to install the libdvdcss2 package. By installing the libdvdcss2 package you can play encrypted DVDs with: Kaffeine, the Kubuntu video player, MPlayer, xine, Totem-xine, VLC media player, Ogle and XBMC Media Center (see RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs). To do so you can open a terminal and paste the following commands:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibu
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
